Drinking alcohol before or after the coronavirus vaccine can harm the body. This is according to public health practitioner, Cindy Ofori Appiah.

He speaks at a special program organized by the morning program Adom FM Dowaso a breeze Dubbed “ one month of evaluating vaccinations against Covid-19, experience and moving forward, ” Ms. Ofori said on Wednesday that research has shown that vaccines take time to build up the body’s immune responses.

Therefore, alcohol intake may lead to a risk of a reduced immune response.

It warns that people may experience a reaction after receiving the vaccine.

Ms. Ofori said that side effects include fever and chills, adding that these symptoms can be more severe if a person drinks before the vaccine.

“Drinking alcohol can increase the severity of the side effects that an individual may experience as a result of taking the COVID-19 vaccine and so we always advise Ghanaians not to drink alcohol two days before and after the Covid-19 vaccine because it can hinder its effectiveness.

She said: “It takes 24 hours for alcohol to leave the body when consumed, and it prevents the vaccine from reaching other organs in the body.”

It also revealed that the conflict between nurses and people while receiving the vaccine may reduce the strength of the vaccine.

And she urged vaccinators to educate people at vaccination centers before giving COVID-19 vaccines.
